Having tried the Huggies Little Swimmers swim nappies, I decided to try the Hygiene Mat from the same range. It is a lightweight, compact mat (590mm x 395mm) with a non-slip back and comes in two funky animal designs- a blue penguin or a green frog!
When we used it at swimming today, it made getting Little One changed so much easier. We have to change on the floor so having the Huggies mat made it much more hygienic. The material is absorbent but feels dry when you touch it. This made getting Little One dry take no time at all. I was also able to kneel on it without getting my knees wet again. He was happy to sit on it while I got his things together, and he was able to stay clean and dry.
The mat folds away neatly and very easily into a compact waterproof bag so it won't get everything else wet and dirty. Unlike a wet towel, it doesn't hold the weight of the water, so it's super lightweight to carry after it's been used. I was half expecting it to be one of those products which unfolds easily but takes forever to fold away again, but it was really easy and it took only a few seconds.
Because it is so compact it's ideal for carrying in a changing bag or handbag. The mat would also work well at the beach so your little one could get changed without getting sandy.
I have yet to try washing our mat, but Huggies claims that it can be washed at 40 degrees in the washing machine, so you can throw it in with your towels and swimwear and it's easy to keep clean.
One downside of the mat is that there is no head rest or cushion so you do have to be very careful with placing baby on the mat. Little One didn't seem to mind today but if he was bothered, I would simply place a clean nappy underneath his head for comfort.
Overall, I was really happy with the product and found it really made getting him changed before and after swimming much, much easier. I can highly recommend it!
Huggies Little Swimmers Hygiene Mat is available from Boots, Asda and Tesco and many other online stores, and costs between £5.00 and £6.99.
