I honestly can't believe how much quicker time goes by once you're an adult. It really doesn't feel like 4 years ago that we got married and when I look back through some of the photos it feels like it was just yesterday that we tied the knot.
We got married in the small town of Southwell in Nottinghamshire, which is where I went to school. We were very fortunate to be able to get married in the beautiful cathedral, Southwell Minster, which is a very special place for my family.
The morning of the wedding, I remember getting up extremely early (far too early in fact!) because I hadn't slept much the night before. I was so nervous! The first thing I did was jump (fall) out of bed and fling open the curtains to check the weather. It was amazingly sunny, and turned out to be a scorcher of a day. I got ready with my beautiful bridesmaids (my two younger sisters and my sister-in-law). My dress was by Ellis Bridals and my bridesmaids wore floor length gowns in dove grey, which I found on a website called Light in the Box available here.
The service was filled with stunning choral music from the cathedral choir, and coming from a musical background, 99% of the guests were also musicians so the singing in the hymns was amazing and something I'll never forget.
As I moved around a lot when I was younger, I have known a lot of different people throughout different walks of my life, so we had a large number of guests to the wedding. We decided that we would just have one reception (rather than a wedding breakfast and separate evening do) and invite everyone to the whole day. It meant cutting back on costs a bit, but we enjoyed Pimms, a wonderful late afternoon BBQ followed by strawberries and cream, and in the evening, guests were served crackers and cheese on pieces of slate (we opted for a tower of cheeses instead of a sweet cake).
The evening was rounded off by a disco which my husband organised using speakers and his own iPod! We were able to save on costs this way as we didn't have to employ the services of a DJ, plus we were able to play the music we wanted! Our first dance was 'Hold On' by Michael Buble and even though I hate dancing, it felt magical, dancing under the fairy lights with my new husband. It was the perfect end to a perfect day.
