We have had a hectic couple of weeks and never seem to have a whole free day, so our festivities seem to have started a little later than usual. We didn't have a festive day as such, but rather a series of lovely little festive moments. Last weekend the three of us finally went out to choose a Christmas tree and we were so excited to finally go to choose one. We went to a plant nursery and arrived to find the most beautiful little winter wonderland outside. Little One loved pointing at all the twinkly lights and it definitely put us all in a really festive mood, ready to choose a tree to bring home with us. Last year we picked a decoration for him but this year we let Little One pick his own and he chose a sweet little glass candy cane for 28p. Obviously has an eye for bargains.
By the time we got home it was so late so we decided to wait until the next day to decorate it. We put on some Christmas tunes and Little One scattered tinsel and baubles all over the place. Not many decorations stayed on the tree. We loved getting out decorations from last year which had been carefully packed away- Baby's First Christmas bauble, his first decoration from us which was a wooden nativity from Leeds German Market last year, and a bauble with his name on given to him at his Christening last year. I hope that we can continue this tradition of buying him a special decoration each year.
Oddly it has taken us a week to finish decorating the tree properly, with the star finally going on the top today (even on a chair I can't reach the top of the 8 foot tree). All week Little One has been fascinated by the tree. I often find him walking around the tree inspecting the different shapes of decorations and sparkly baubles. He has just noticed there are presents under the tree and has tried to to open one or two. The stockings are hung on fireplace ready for Father Christmas and the lights are twinkling outside the house. It's definitely beginning to look a lot more like Christmas in our house and I can't wait to see Little One's face light up on Christmas Eve.
I hope that we can continue some of these little traditions for years to come and introduce some new ones too and make all our Christmasses truly magical for Little One.
I got a few photos over the week. The light in our house is shocking though so they're a little grainy, but I love them anyway as they document our special memories.
Helping hang baubles on the tree and Christmas definitely isn't complete without a basket of mismatched tinsel which doesn't seem to go anywhere.
We are collecting a lovely collection of decorations. I'm a fan of wooden ones.
Little One's stocking. We got this last year in Mamas and Papas and it has his name embroidered across the top.
I love the twinkly lights on the tree. The living room looks so cosy at night time when it's dark and just the tree lights are on.
Finally putting the star on the tree. Only a week late.
