{The Ordinary Moments 15} #22 'A Spontaneous Saturday Adventure...'

Do you ever have those days where you know you have the whole day free but for some reason you don't make any plans? On the rare occasions we do have a whole free day, for we like to live on the edge and never make any plans ahead of time (actually it's because we are totally disorganised...). Normally, our ordinary Saturdays just pass by in a flash. I go to teach in the morning and then take LO to Waterbabies, we have lunch and then it's nap time. By the end of which, it's 4pm and time to think about the evening routine.

Today was different though. With a rare whole free day, we decided to just have a totally spontaneous day. One where you wake up with no plans, get up a bit later than normal, watch a bit of Peppa Pig on the iPad in mummy's and daddy's bed and have a leisurely breakfast. We are pretty terrible for making plans ahead of time, normally just choosing something to do and then going off to do it, and today was one of those days.

A day where you don't really plan anything, you go where the mood takes you and it just morphs into the perfect day where you make lots of lovely memories together as a family. We had only intended to go to Tropical World in Leeds, but as the sun started to shine, we just couldn't resist a little walk around the botanical gardens and then a little visit to the nearby funfair too. I don't think I've seen LO so exhausted for a long time- he slept the whole way back in the car but had no nap at home, hence the early bedtime... Here is our spontaneous Saturday in pictures...

Admiring some beautifully sparkly fish. They looked like they were covered in glitter.

Tropical World in Leeds is well worth a visit, there's so much to look at.

Just look at those gorgeous colours. It was even more vivid in real life.

We seem to find it hard to get photos where a) everyone looks remotely normal and b) where everyone is looking at the camera... I was either admiring my lovely husband or the gorgeous waterfall.

It's worth going to Tropical World just to say hello to these cute meerkats. They're so tame.

Lots of fun in the botanical gardens, hiding in rhododendrons and climbing trees.

A sunny visit to a nearby funfair in a place called Roundhay Park, just opposite Tropical World. Little One had his first experience of funfair rides and seems to be a bit of a thrill seeker. Teacups and a mini Thomas rollercoaster are quite enough excitement for a 22 month old!

They even had a little beach complete with deck chairs, buckets and spades and a candy floss stall. On a sunny May afternoon, what more could you ask for?

    1. We do love these kinds of days, although we are running out of local places to visit on the spur of the moment! We might need to get organised and start planning some days out further afield! It was a lovely day though, thank you! x

  3. Ah it looks like such a fun day Amelia, I actually love that family photo of you, you look really happy. I think those kind of days out are BY far the best. We had no plans at all yesterday and we have a busy month coming up so decided to stick near home, but we went out for a cake in our favourite tea room and to feed the ducks, before coming back for a carpet picnic at home. I said to Mr E that it was one of the nicest days I have had for ages. I am hoping today is going to be like that too! Have a wonderful Sunday too. xx

    1. It was SO much fun! And all the better when the sun is shining and LO is in a really cheerful mood! Cake out and feeding the ducks also sounds idyllic- I love simple days like that- ones where you don't have too high expectations and the day just turns out perfectly! xx

  6. This is lovely, the spontaneous days are often the best. When you know you'd have been happy all curled up on the sofa and your expectations are wildly exceeded. Love the pictures #ordinarymoments
