We are now in the full throes of July, and the month just seems to be passing by so quickly, and as the days tick by we are getting closer and closer to a big milestone in our family; Little Ones second birthday. I know I say this a lot but I can't quite believe where time has gone. It only feels a short time ago that he turned one and was still very much a baby, crawling around in the garden, not yet walking, and now here we are, at nearly age 2, and he's a confident little boy, running around, chattering like a monkey and being just a little bit cheeky every now and again.
One of the best things about the past two years is the way in which Little One has been able to grow up with such a lovely set of friends. All born within a 2 month window, his best pals are a group of 6 other toddlers who he has known since birth. We met all their parents through doing NCT classes and from the moment they were all born, we have met up, been on play dates, eaten lots of cake, chatted on WhatsApp daily and been to lots of groups together. It's one of those things which we are most thankful for in fact- to have such a wonderful group of friends who are supportive, fun and just get the whole parenting thing. It's also very special for the toddlers to have a group of friends to play and interact with and to hopefully grow up with too.
Something we started very early on was to organise various celebration parties throughout the year- namely Christmas, birthdays and Halloween. This weekend, we organised a joint 2nd birthday celebration party for them all and it really was the most perfect little party. Luckily the weather was great and we were able to be out in one of their gardens all afternoon. Everyone brought around outdoor toys to share, there was a huge trampoline, balloons, a BBQ, an amazing birthday cake and even a Piñata full of treats and surprises for the toddlers to find with wooden spoons. Another little tradition we do is to do a 'secret Santa' at Christmas and for birthdays too, so we each pick a name and buy a gift for one child. Sitting around watching them tear open their presents and seeing the delight on their faces was just magical.
It was actually so lovely to just sit back and watch the seven toddlers running around together and having so much fun together. They have spent so many of their early moments together and I hope that as they get older and go to their various schools or follow different paths in life, that they will still remain friends and be able to look back on photos of these early days and see how much fun they all had together. I always think it's such a shame that as humans, we just can't remember our earliest memories, but that's why I love taking photos and documenting these memories for Little One to look back on.
