This summer, we have been loving having a few weekends here and there where we have absolutely no plans to speak of, no work commitments and no swimming lessons. Weekends where we can have lazy breakfasts, potter about the house or just go out somewhere local, just the three of us, and enjoy a little day out together, as actually this is something we rarely get to do.
With the exception of LO's birthday this past weekend, and a couple of work bits on the odd August weekend, we have about 5 or 6 weeks of clear weekends this summer where we can just do whatever we want together. I think this time is so important and we are adamant we are going to keep a few days here and there absolutely clear of any plans. Last week, we enjoyed a lazy breakfast at home and just decided to head over to Leeds to the Botanical Gardens at Roundhay Park. An absolutely gorgeous hidden gem, with paths to follow, a water wheel, gorgeous colourful flowers, fountains and even a little pagoda to hide in, we played in the sunshine for hours, giving LO shoulder rides, chasing him around on the lawns, playing hide and seek and rolling down the grassy banks. If ever you're in the Leeds area, do go along and have a look. It's totally free to get in, is next door to Tropical World and the main park, and is perfect for toddlers or little children wanting to run around a bit.
It was lovely to just be able to sit back and watch LO and his daddy playing together in the sun, giggling, and running about. Sometimes, I really do think the best days are the spontaneous ones, ones where you just head out of the house with no real plans, and end up somewhere truly gorgeous, having the most fun ever. With no holiday or any plans to speak of until September, I think little spontaneous adventures are going to be what we do most weekends in August now, I can't wait to see what next weekend holds in store for us...
I took quite a few photos, but this place is just so beautiful, it's the perfect spot to take photos of your littlies.
