{The Ordinary Moments 15} #31 'A 2nd Birthday Adventure...'

Last weekend was one of those weekends where time just whizzes by in a flash, but you get to Sunday evening an you just feel so exhausted. It was the weekend our baby boy turned 2, and what a weekend it was. I'm a little later writing this than I planned on doing so, but we were so busy last Sunday I barely had time to catch my breath. Now, a week on, we are back to our ordinary routine, our family who came to stay have returned home, we have devoured our body weight in buffet party food and cake and it's safe to say we now have enough toys to open a large toy shop, which LO has been loving.

Celebrating these birthdays in the early years is so exciting, and I think even more so this year than last year for his first birthday. He was so much more aware of the day, of the cards, of friends and family who had come to celebrate his special day with him. He took so much delight in carefully opening each card and looking at the pictures on the front and it was so special to watch. Even now, with the cards all sitting displayed proudly on our mantelpiece, LO still loves asking me to get them down for him to he can look at the pictures.

LO's actual birthday was Friday 24th July, and as the weather was a bit unpredictable, we weren't too sure what to do. It turned out that the weather around Nottinghamshire was actually quite nice, so we decided to head down the A1 to a place called Sundown Adventure Land, a little theme park for children under 10. It really was the perfect place to take him- nothing high octane, just little choo-choo train and tractor rides, themed toy town villages to explore and a couple of little water rides. We went with my mum too, had a cheeky burger and chips for lunch and ice creams after. It really was the perfect day.

In the evening, we had LO's auntie and uncle over and a little birthday buffet, complete with a construction site digger cake which Mr F, my mum and I all made as a team effort. We had lots of presents and cards and played with loads of balloons. On Saturday, LO's birthday excitement continued as my other sister and her boyfriend arrived from London to join in the celebrations. On Sunday, we had another party, this time with a Peppa Pig theme, with grandparents, godparents and LO's great grandad there to join in the celebrations. He absolutely loved all the attention, playing with all his wonderful new toys and eating just a bit too much cake. I was absolutely shattered by Sunday evening after a mammoth 3 day second birthday adventure, but LO just had so much fun.

I love documenting ordinary moments in our lives, but I also love documenting the milestones too, the birthdays, the holidays and moments with family. I love that LO will have these to look back on when he's older too.

I actually didn't take many photos on my big camera as our house is so dark so not great for taking good photos, but I did manage to capture a few, and I made a little iPhone video capturing memories of LO's birthday weekend too.

I have honestly never seen anyone take so much pleasure in opening birthday cards!

One of the playgrounds was beach themed, with a pirate ship surrounded by sand.

Even though it was drizzling, we still got our shoes and socks off and played in the sand.

Sundown has different themes to it, including a Wild West section. LO loved sitting on the horse to eat an obligatory birthday ice cream, even though it was raining...

There are also little themed villages in the park, with miniature buildings only big enough for children to go in.

As LO loves books and stories, we took him to the fairytale section, where each house is from a different fairytale. This is the gingerbread house.

So many yummy flavours. If you can't have an ice cream on your birthday then when can you?

I am known for hating selfies, but as it was my little man's birthday, I thought I'd capture this memory of us in the barrel water ride.

The infamous '2' balloon which featured in our Me and Mine family photos this month. This provided hours of entertainment last weekend!

LO's birthday construction site birthday cake which I baked with my mum and decorated with Mr F in record time after we got back from Sundown Adventure Land.

    1. It was a fantastic, albeit very tiring birthday weekend, thank you! He is so obsessed with diggers, so digger rides and a digger cake felt like the natural course to take! His coat is from Little Club at boots x

  2. Amelia I absolutely LOVE the video- it's perfect, you did such a good job. It's lovely and I love the bit where LO blows out the candles with you, his little face is so cute. It looks like he had a lovely birthday, the cake looks amazing too. And I think we need to have a look at Sundown as we aren't too far from there and often meet my MIL in Nottinghamshire as it's in the middle of us both- it looks like lots of fun and I think LL especially would love it. x

    1. Aww thank you so much Katie, your comment has made my day :) It's just filmed on my iPhone as my DSLR doesn't have video capabilities, but it shows what can be done with an iPhone and iMovie I guess. I don't know how you make so many amazing videos- they take forever to make! Aah yes you should definitely go to Sundown. If you look past the slightly dated paint work on some of the rides etc, it really is a very sweet place to go, especially when it's quiet. LL would love it! xx

    1. It was kind of crazy how long his celebrations went on for, but it was lots of fun, although very tiring. I was quite pleased with the cake but couldn't have done it without my mum and hubby's help! x
