Halloween Decor Inspiration 2015

I'm not sure what it is about Autumn that I love so much but October is definitely one of my favourite months of the year. I love the crisp afternoon air, the colourful leaves and going to snuggle inside with a hot chocolate as the evenings draw in. I also love it because of Halloween. I know not everyone is a fan, but growing up in Canada as a child, it was widely celebrated, with all my friends getting into the spirit and dressing up to go trick or treating. I also loved it as a child because it falls the day before my birthday and I would always have Halloween themed birthday parties. I think now in the UK, celebrating Halloween has grown in popularity recently, with more and more people decorating their houses, dressing up and carving pumpkins.

This year we will be getting into the Halloween spirit for sure. I love switching up little bits of decor in our house according to the seasons, and will be adding a few bits of Halloween decor here and there. I have collected a few bits and pieces over the past few years, but this year I was really excited to hear of the new range of Halloween decorations at Matalan. So I have been really organised and chosen a few pieces from the collection. I browsed the website for ages, and was amazed at the choice and the really reasonable prices too.

Here's what we got...

Halloween Ceramic Tealight Holder: These look so lovely in the evenings with a little tealight inside. A skull and a pumpkin is also available. £1.50 each.

Little One and I will look forward to doing a bit of spooky Halloween baking with this fab Halloween Cupcake accessories kit. (I'll be featuring them in a blog post nearer Halloween). The kit comes with 12 orange cupcake cases and 12 assorted cupcake toppers and costs £3.00.

I thought these Hanging Honeycomb Decorations would look great hanging outside the front door or in the trees on Halloween. You get 2 spiders and 2 bats. They're actually quite a good size (spider 30cm x 26cm and bat 56cm x 19cm) so look great hanging in the trees. These cost £3.00 for a set of 4.

Again, for the £4.00, this Hanging Witch decoration is a really good size and made of felt. It makes a nice decoration for the door or inside the house and is perfect for if you want some less scary decorations.

I am really looking forward to decorating our house for Halloween. This Halloween Bunting is £2.00 looks great hung on the wall or across the mantlepiece like I have done. (top image from Matalan website).

I must admit, I am a bit of a candle-aholic and love nothing more than to light lots of gorgeous Autumn scented candles in the evenings. But with a toddler, they're not very safe and can easily be knocked over. A great alternative are these LED pillar candles which come in 3 different sizes ranging from £3.00 - £5.00 and run off AAA batteries. They flicker like a real candle and feel like wax. They look great in the window in the evening and are much safer than real candles. (image from Matalan website).

This plastic Halloween Treat Bowl is £2.00 and perfect for keeping sweets and crisps in if you get trick or treaters calling at your house. It also comes in a green design too.

If you want to really get into the Halloween spirit this year or maybe you're hosting a Halloween party, Matalan are also featuring Full size skeletons in their Halloween collection this year! When we got ours and I opened the box, I was amazed at how life-like it was. LO was a bit scared but I'm sure older children would find this really fascinating to look at, it's worth noting though that it's not a toy. The skeleton is 5ft tall and costs £40.00 which I think is really reasonable for a skeleton model. (Image from Matalan website).

We also had a look at the Halloween costumes and chose this Pirate Skeleton Costume for Little One to wear this year. For the past two years he has dressed up as a pumpkin, but now he's a bit older I thought it would make a change for him to dress as something a bit different. I was really impressed with the design of the costume. The top is all in one with a velcro opening down the back so it looks like the jacket is separate. It looks really smart on and comes with the striped trousers, a hat and a felt pirate sword. The gold detailing makes it look much more expensive too. He loved dressing up in it and wanted to wear it all evening! It comes in age 12 months up to 4 years and we bought it in age 2-3, although I should probably have got age 3-4 years as he is quite a big boy.

Do you decorate your house or do any special activities for Halloween? What will your Little One be dressing up as this year? I love to read your comments so please let me know in the comments section below!

NB: I was very kindly offered the chance to choose some items from the Halloween range on the Matalan website for the purposes of this review and was also sent a full size skeleton. All words and images and are my own unless I have stated that the image has come from the Matalan website.
