{The Siblings Project} Brothers in January 2016

I have been so so excited to be able to join in with this photo project, hosted by Lucy from Dear Beautiful for so long now. I knew that with having a New Year's day due date that I'd definitely be able to join in for the first time this month, I just hadn't factored in how long it would take me to actually get around to getting a photo of my two little boys together and then also find the time to write a post about it as well! I'd totally forgotten how little time you have when you have a newborn, let alone a newborn and a toddler!

I think my photos of my two babies sum up what their initial relationship has been like over the first two weeks. LO can't found it to be the easiest time and I think I was naive to think he'd just accept his new baby brother with open arms just like that. I suppose I'd imagined capturing a lovely photo of his cradling Little L gently in his arms, but that was not to be. We struck a happy medium with them both lying next to each other on the floor for a few seconds instead so i quickly captured these on my iPhone. But this is real life and it shows perfectly where they're at with their new relationship as brothers- LO not quite sure about it all but still showing his affectionate side. I hope to be able to capture through my photos their bond growing stronger each month as Little L gets bigger.

I think for any 2 and a half year old, getting a new sibling is a huge change and it will take a while for him to adjust to having Little L around. After an initial few days of meltdowns, me feeling incredibly upset and guilty, and LO even asking one of our cats to take Little L "back to the doctor" he seems to be finally accepting that his baby brother is part of the family. He will now occasionally pass me a nappy or wipes for him, he kisses him goodnight, points at objects around the house which belong to Little L, and tells me if he's ok when they're both in their car seats. It's not been the easiest start, but I cannot wait to see how their bond develops over the coming months and years.

"Brother: A person who is there when you need him; someone who picks you up when you fall; a person who sticks up for you when no one else will; a brother is always a friend".

Little and Large. I can't believe the size difference! I also love how they're lying down the same way
