{The Siblings Project 16} Brothers in June

I had wanted to get my siblings post done on time for once this month, but you may have seen on my social media that Little L has started a new bedtime routine and we have started him off sleeping in his own bedroom, so evenings have been a little chaotic around here. Between that and keeping on top of getting the house ready for house viewings with a toddler and a baby, I have really struggled to find time to sit down and blog. I did however manage (by some miracle) to get some photos of my two boys together for my siblings photos for June. It wasn't easy at all- firstly to get LO to have his photo taken at the moment- he's now far more interested in being in control of the camera and will happily wonder around holding it, snapping pictures himself. Secondly, to get them both in the same spot at the same time without LO jumping about on the bed, and thirdly to get them both in a good mood at the same time. But I think I just about managed it...

The light was failing a bit, and LO really wouldn't keep still, but I do love these photos of them both. To me, it doesn't matter if they're a bit blurry or out of focus. These have captured my two little cheeky boys just how they are in that moment in time. These photos sum up perfectly their ever growing bond. They show how LO is now not worried or scared to hold his baby brother, and actually, how at ease he looks holding him. He's always been the most affectionate and caring little boy anyway, but he is just so incredibly sweet with Little L. He worries when he cries and always says "Mummy he needs his milk, he's crying". He will let Little L hold his beloved Moo Moo if he wants it to chew on or if he's upset, and is always on hand to pick up his Sophie the Giraffe if he drops it.

One of my favourite times of day with these two is nap time. Although recently it's been a bit hit and miss as to whether LO will actually stay in his bed and sleep, we always read about 3 stories together before. LO and Little L lie next to each other and LO will recite his favourite stories to him off by heart- at the moment his favourites are The Gruffalo's Child which he can read cover to cover, or we will read any of the Thomas stories, with LO pointing out every train for Little L "Look that's James, and that's Gordon, and that's Cranky the Crane!". I think because Little L hears constant chatter and a running commentary throughout the day from his very chatty big brother, you can hear that already Little L is trying desperately to communicate back- obviously at 5 months it's just gurgles and coos and blowing raspberries (much to LO's amusement). He absolutely worships his older brother and never takes his eyes off him. And while I am the one who can soothe Little L when he's crying, he also takes great comfort from his brother being nearby too, and will stop crying when he sees him.

I am just so incredibly proud of LO and how sweet he is with Little L. He really is the most sweet and affectionate big brother and each day his love for Little L grows even stronger. Over the past couple of days, Little L has been desperately trying to do full rolls (back to tummy) and LO has been teaching him how to do it. He has been so encouraging, saying "Come on, you can do it". Today he finally did it all by himself on his playmat, and LO just beamed from ear to ear and gave him a little clap when he'd done it. Of course a 2 year old doesn't know that rolling is one of those first milestones that you eagerly tick off as a parent, but to him, it was a moment where he could see Little L had achieved something and he was clearly so proud of him. Little does he know that that roll marks the gateway to a lifetime of fun and games together and I cannot wait to see how their bond will grow...

And because photos speak a thousand words...

  3. Aww what a lovely post you have written with gorgeous photos too. I especially like the fact that the little one is trying to talk to the eldest and how caring they are towards one another.
