I'll begin by saying this is a completely new sort of post for me. I'm by no means a makeup artist or an expert on the subject, nor am I about to launch myself as a beauty blogger...! However, makeup is something which is very much a part of my life. Literally not a day goes by where I don't wear a bit of makeup. I think I started wearing makeup on a daily basis when I was about 16 and I'm 31 now- I really can't believe I've been putting makeup on day in day out for 15 years! When we were younger, I remember my middle sister and I would save up our pocket money and go and buy a new nail polish from the chemist or some ridiculously coloured pot of Barry M eye dust. At school, I remember feeling really unconfident with my looks- I had pale skin and fairly pale eyelashes for my dark chestnut coloured hair. I began to use little bits of makeup to enhance my natural features and I found it just gave me that confidence boost I so needed.
Even now, I never ever leave the house without makeup on. It's become a part of who I am. I think most people wouldn't even recognise me without my makeup on. I don't even really wear that much, but I have found ways to enhance my features without looking like I am wearing a full face of makeup each day. My daily makeup routine has definitely had to evolve over the last couple of years since I have had children and over the last year, sleep deprivation has meant that I often look tired and my skin isn't always in the best state. In the mornings, with two little boys to get up and entertain, I really don't have any longer than 5 minutes, 10 at the max, to get ready. I have perfected my little morning makeup routine which I can do while the boys sit and play for a few minutes.
I thought I'd share my super quick and easy 5 minute makeup routine and my go-to products I use everyday.
Bizarrely, I'm not particularly attached to any particular brand and I find I switch up my makeup quite frequently, but at the moment, these products tend to be the ones I use on a daily basis.
I begin by quickly prepping my skin with some Simple light moisturiser and then conceal under my eyes, my nose and my chin with the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer in Fair (I do find this a bit pale, but the next shade is far too dark so ideally I'd have the two shades to blend together). I then use a Real Techniques brush to buffer on my foundation. I always use Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation in the shade 52.
And there it is. My completed morning makeup look for a sleep deprived mummy. As I know my routine so well it takes me around 5 minutes and it really does make me feel so much more confident and ready to face the day.
Do you wear makeup everyday? What are your top makeup essentials? I'd love to know!
