Fast forward a few years, beyond the teaching years and into motherhood. My days now look quite different and I do find that having that little boost of caffeine gets me through my day. I can now regularly be found sipping on a coffee, sometimes multiple times a day. I'll often start my day with a coffee while I get the boys breakfast sorted, pre-school run, I may then have another mid morning while I'm sorting things at home or playing with Little L. Working from home two days a week, I'll also make sure I grab myself a coffee after the school run, when I sit down to my emails or when I'm writing blog posts. And while I do love my little trips to take LO to the cafe for a hot drink and a cake, it can become pricey popping out a couple of times a week. But sometimes the instant coffee at home just doesn't cut it!
I was really pleased therefore to get the chance to try out one of the subscription boxes from Blue Coffee Box, the online coffee subscription service where you can order bags of speciality coffee roasted by artisan roasters in the UK, straight to your door. You can choose whether you'd like your coffee as beans, for a cafetiere, dripper or espresso, as well as being able to select the type of coffee- light, medium or dark roast, or a surprise selection (which is the most popular option). The website is really simple to use- you just make your selections and then opt which subscription suits you best- one, three or six months. The coffee bags arrive in a neat little box, beautifully presented with info cards about each of the coffees, including information about the variety, producer and location of the beans, as well as notes about the flavours too.
I opted for ground coffee for my Bodum cafetiere. I really enjoyed the Gishyita Lot 2, which has notes of caramel, orange and spices. Topped with a little frothed milk, it tasted absolutely delicious, and was definitely a cut above the usual instant coffee I drink. Having a supply of delicious coffee in the cupboard is a real treat, and perfect for when you have unexpected guests over for a morning cuppa. It's also perfect to reach for on those days when you're just exhausted, the kids are running riot and you just need a little pick me up, because well, you shouldn't have to dash to the local barista every time you want a fabulous cup of coffee!
Thank you to Blue Coffee Box for sending me these delicious coffees to try.
